"....His background in
experimental movies significantly influences his current work and his
experience with editing audio, film, and constructing sound-design for
film plays an important role in the structural choices within this sonic
work. He states that his composition technique tries to avoid a linear
notion of time, which is the primary narrative form in current music and
film production. Additionally, (1) is the first part of a series of
sound works under the project name begin _if_ where Limbach obviously
finds a sonic spatial arena to liberate himself from notions of
predictable musical structure and narratives. Therefore, he creates a
landscape, throughout 58’23” of sound, with various passages of silence,
environmental and processed material, sense of location, culture, and
blocks of pictorial sonic imagination. The work is comprised of field
recordings and it blends into digital processing as a means for
modifying material and composing. Limbach says "Here I don't fear pink
noise, mixing high-end with cell phone quality recordings. There is a
fixed length, a fixed set of parameters behind the track, and within
these parameters there is some space for improvisation. All of it is
about creating new music, which is organic, beyond genre clichés and
commercial existence." ......"
